About Texas America250

As the nation gears up for the United States Semiquincentennial on July 4, 2026—marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence—Texans are already exploring the Lone Star State’s bold role in America’s unfolding story.

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) invites Texans of all ages to celebrate and learn our history through your local library! We’ve launched exciting statewide programs reaching all 254 counties, bringing the Texas America250 celebration right to your community.

Texans of all ages are invited to join TSLAC’s statewide Texas America250 Reading Challenge and encouraged to visit their local libraries to view our traveling exhibits on loan throughout 2026. Traveling Texas America250 exhibits highlight historically significant Texas Treasures from TSLAC’s collections, many of which are also be on public display throughout 2026 as part of our Texas America250 lobby exhibit in Austin.

We will also highlight other historical records from the State Archives and resources from our extensive library collections, the Talking Book Program, and the Texas Center for the Book throughout the year.

Learn more about nationwide celebrations at america250.org.

TSLAC is proud to work alongside the Office of the Governor, Economic Development and Tourism Office; the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission; the State Board of Education; and the Bullock Texas State History Museum on the Texas America250 Commission.
