Request Governor George W. Bush Records
Governor George W. Bush records are located at the George W. Bush Presidential Library at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
These records remain the property of the State of Texas, the responsibility of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, and subject to the Texas Public Information Act (PIA). Certain records will require review and redaction or removal by archivists of the Commission prior to use by researchers.
Public information act requests must be submitted directly to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, not the George W. Bush Library. To submit a PIA request to the Texas State Archives, use this Texas State Archive Material Request Form (PDF). A Research Request is sufficient for requesting most State Archives materials. While a PIA request is always an option, a PIA request for State Archives materials is required only if a researcher does not agree to the redaction or removal of restricted government information.
Finding aids describing Governor Bush records are available online. Bush gubernatorial records do not include campaign records, personal papers, or materials concerning his transition to the presidency.
