Berlin. Nov. 12th. 1847
My dear Sir,
I have not heard any thing of
you, or from you, except in an English publication
of your reply to Mr. Tyler's letter on the
Texas question. I suppose, however, by the
time this reaches Washington you will be
there, and busy with the consideration of the
grave questions produced by the Mexican War.
Yet, you may not be indisposed to read a
line from me, and to know that although
distant from my old range, I take a
deep interest in all that concerns the
actors upon it.
This portion of Europe as a general
rule, sees the United States only through
