Nacogdoches October 22nd 1838
You have doubtless heard
of the Mexican & Indian difficulties that
have occurred in this Section of Country
as they transpired. I have written you
twice on the Subject. I would have done
so oftener, but the only reply I have
been honored with from you was a mere
passing reference to me in a letter to the
The troubles ceased appa-
rently with the dispersion of the Mexicans
the Indians as usual professing peace.
The Mexicans were reported to have gone to
About 2 weeks since
however they made their reappearance by
an attack in conjunction with a large
party of Indians upon the upper settlement
of this County at a place called the
Sabine 75 miles north west on the Neches
killing and capturing together about
25 persons. They also made several

Major Riley who bears this is Genl Rusks partner.
He was in the action, & can give you a great deal of
information about the Indians of the County.
