Morgan to Sam Houston, April 1836and would be greatly pleased that they might be sent
down to join the company of Regulars. As more
prisoners will be sent down in the Steam Boat
that now goes up, it will require more troops to guard
them, so that the Regulars will answer the double purpose
of a guard down and to join the Garrison at this place
May I suggest the propriety of not suffering too many
persons from leaving the Camp by various excuses they
get to the place merely to lounge about and be in the
way: no person is wanted here who is not willing to
subject himself to the most rigorous Military duty.

We want sundry articles at this post which
I trust can now be spared from the Army as I per-
ceived a superabundance of them in camp. Say
muskets—pistols—swords—saddles stores etc.
I am getting up a Company of Cavalry for the
Island, which will be a very useful and efficient
Company; and who will be enlisted as regulars to serve
during the war.

Trusting that the health of your
excellency has improved since I left camp and that
you will be enabled to pay me a visit at this
place soon, where with sea air and sea bathing
I am certain your health will be firmly restored.

I remain,
with every Consideration of
Respect,
Yr Obt Servt
J Morgan
Col Commanding

His Excellency
Genl Saml H. Houston
