William Pinckney McLeanBack to exhibit William Pinckney McLean was born in Mississippi in 1835 and moved to Texas with his family when he was two years old. McLean became a lawyer and was elected to the Texas legislature from South Texas in 1861. He soon resigned to join the Confederate Army as a member of the Nineteenth Texas Infantry, Walker's Texas Division. After the war, he returned to Texas and served in a number of public offices, including one term in the U.S. Congress, but his main reputation was as a successful attorney. He served as a railroad commissioner from 1891-94. He continued to be active in Democratic politics and in the practice of law until his death in 1925.
