Hispanic band at Allan Shivers rally

During the 1950s, Governor Allan Shivers kept his bases covered with a traditional appeal to the Hispanic vote. The 1950s saw a rise in activism among Hispanics, especially as many veterans obtained a college education through the GI Bill of Rights and began to rise into the middle class.
