Detail from the Republic of Texas three-dollar bill. Images of beautiful women adorned the currency of the Republic of Texas. These representations were typical of the period, in which images of women were used in public life to depict ideals such as liberty and justice. This passive goddess was meant to be admired from afar. She was not intended to represent real women, who tended to be somewhat less ethereal and divine.
