Aunt Jade who takes care of the boys

Most women in Texas still lived in rural areas and led lives of hard physical labor. They viewed with suspicion the town women with their college-educated ways. As the caption on this photo reads, it was the job of "Aunt Jade" to "take care of the boys."

Undated photo, W.D. Hornaday Collection, Prints and Photographs Collection, Texas State Library and Archives Commission. #1975/70-5441.
