Dolph Briscoe
Briscoe and his wife Janey ride in the inaugural parade, January 16, 1973.
Mrs. Briscoe was widely known for being vivacious, fashionable, and intelligent. Raised in Austin, she met her husband on a blind date at the University of Texas. They were married right away; he was 19, she was 17. Some called her the power behind the throne. Dolph Briscoe was the first to acknowledge his wife's importance to his career, later saying, "Our whole world has been as a team. I never would have made it without her."
