Joseph D. Sayers
After leaving the governorship, Sayers practiced law in San Antonio and served on the board of regents of the University of Texas. He supported the university in its battle with Governor James E. Ferguson. At various times he served on the state Industrial Accident Board (now the Texas Workers' Compensation Commission), the board of legal examiners, and the board of pardon advisors. This photograph shows Sayers circa 1920. He died in 1929 and was buried in Bastrop.
