TSLAC’s New State Archival and Records Storage Facility Coming Soon!

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) anticipates opening a new state archival and records storage facility to be located in Pflugerville by the spring of 2027. This new annex facility will house central components of TSLAC operations, including state-of-the-art facilities for archival storage and digitization; superior climate-controlled facilities for storage of state agency government records and high-end imaging services; and the circulation and Volunteer Recording Studio of the Talking Book Program.
Background
In 2023, the 88th Texas Legislature appropriated $210 million to the Texas Facilities Commission (TFC) for the construction of a new state archival and records storage facility for TSLAC to completely replace the existing storage facility currently located on Shoal Creek Blvd. The new facility will be located in Pflugerville at the corner of Riggins Bend Road and Balaton Boulevard, and is expected to be completed in early 2027. TFC is in charge of all aspects of the building process, including securing the site, selecting the design and construction teams, and working with TSLAC staff to design and complete the facilities as directed by the Legislature.
About TSLAC’s Storage Operations
TSLAC has been providing storage and imaging services to state and local partners for more than 50 years, and our current warehouse and facilities have served the state well. However, the demand for new space for state agency storage, archival records, and Talking Book Program operations necessitated an expansion. The new site will offer the bigger capacity with at least a 25-year growth plan along with modern facilities for conservation, imaging, and digitization services.
We are looking forward to increasing the volunteer base for our Talking Book Program, and we will work with the local community to share what this amazing program delivers and how volunteers can contribute.
More to Come!
We will provide updates on our progress as we move toward construction, which is expected to begin in early fall 2025.
Inquiries about construction, equipment providers, and land queries should be directed to the Texas Facilities Commission. All TSLAC services administered through our current Shoal Creek facility will continue with our gold standard commitment to customer service.
