Austin, TX – The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) has entered into contract with Auto-Graphics, Inc. to implement SHAREit as the new statewide interlibrary loan solution for Texas public libraries, to be fully implemented over the next state fiscal year, beginning Sept. 1, 2023.
This spring, TSLAC solicited responses for a system to replace the current consortial interlibrary loan system, Navigator/NRE, which is being discontinued by OCLC in the summer of 2024. Participating libraries will continue to have access to and use Navigator over the next year for interlibrary loan activities. Texas public libraries can expect to hear more details on system migration plans directly from TSLAC staff later this month.
SHAREit offers functionality that will allow participating libraries to continue to provide interlibrary loan services efficiently and effectively to their communities. These include patron-initiated request options, the ability for unfilled requests to be filled from libraries outside the Texas consortium, streamlined book club/multiple copy requesting, configuration for local policies, plus support and training resources. Auto-Graphics has been providing consortial ILL services for more than 35 years, and Texas joins 16 other statewide interlibrary programs in the United States currently using SHAREit.
The statewide interlibrary loan program, administered by TSLAC, assists Texas public libraries in meeting the current accreditation criteria to offer to borrow and lend materials with other Texas public libraries. There are currently 534 Texas public libraries and branches, 14 small academic libraries and 12 prison libraries participating in the statewide interlibrary loan consortium.
The program is funded by the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) through the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
