Austin, TX – The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) has announced that it is accepting applications for its state fiscal year 2025 Texas Reads competitive grant program.

The Texas Reads grant funds public library programs that promote reading and literacy within local communities. Programs may include—but are not limited to—book talks; English literacy classes; author visits; book clubs or discussion groups; Lone Star Día; Born-to-Read or Every Child Ready to Read programs; One Book, One Community programs; or programs to enhance summer reading club activities. 

Approximately $100,000 is expected to be available, with a maximum possible grant award per library of $10,000. Libraries may only be awarded one Texas Reads grant per grant cycle. Funding will support programming taking place during state fiscal year 2025 (Sept.1, 2024 – Aug. 31, 2025).

Public libraries and local public library systems, through their governing authority (city, county, nonprofit or district) are eligible to apply. To receive a grant, applicants must be members of the Texas Library System for the fiscal year the grant contracts are issued. The deadline to apply is March 4, 2024.
