FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Liberty, TX – The Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center (SHC), part of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC), will host a special event on Texas suffragists on Saturday, March 28, at 2 p.m.

Jessica Brannon-Wranosky, Distinguished Professor of Digital Humanities and History at East Texas A&M University, will share stories of Texas women who fought for the right to vote when she visits the Sam Houston Center. Her research on women’s suffrage has been featured in numerous publications, as a Texas Standard radio series and on PBS.

The public is invited to learn more about the strategic role Texas women had in the national suffrage movement and view a select screening from the Citizens at Last: Texas Women Fight for the Vote documentary series Brannon-Wranoksy co-produced. In addition, visitors can experience a special display of historic items related to women’s suffrage from the collections of the Sam Houston Center and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission in Austin.

This event is free and open to the public. No registration is required. Contact the Center at (936) 336-8821 or email samhoustoncenter@tsl.texas.gov for more information.

The Sam Houston Center is a component of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission and serves as the official regional historical resource depository for the 10 Southeast Texas counties of Chambers, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Newton, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto and Tyler. The Center's primary mission is to collect, preserve and provide access to historically significant state and local government records and publications of the designated region and secondarily to serve as a library of Texana and genealogical resources.
