FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Austin, TX – The Texas Center for the Book at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) is pleased to host a 50-minute showing of excerpts from Ken Burns' film The American Revolution, focusing on military history, on Wednesday, April 29, at 12:00 noon at the Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building, 1201 Brazos St. in Austin. This event is free and open to the public.

Attendees are encouraged to register online at https://forms.office.com/r/ipWmF2G4YW.

About The American Revolution documentary
“Thirteen American colonies unite in rebellion, win an eight-year war to secure their independence and establish a new form of government that would inspire democratic movements at home and around the globe. What begins as a political clash between colonists and the British government grows into a bloody struggle that will engage more than two dozen nations and forever change the world.”

After the screening, attendees are invited to check out TSLAC’s 2026 lobby exhibit, Texas America250. The new exhibit spotlights some of the areas where Texans’ contributions to the development of the nation shine especially bright—true Texas icons that remind all Americans of the 28th state. From cowboys to astronauts, from Beaumont to Big Bend, the country would not be what it has become without Texas.

Through July, the original 1876 Texas Constitution is also on display in TSLAC’s Reference Reading Room. Texas still operates under this constitution today. Don’t miss your chance to see the foundation of Texas government in person.

Texans of all ages are also invited to join the statewide Reading Challenge, logging 2,500 minutes of reading, state parks visits and/or service activity in 2026. And Texas America250 traveling pop-up exhibits are also currently on view at more than 700 locations around the state—check with your local public library! For more information about TSLAC’s Texas America250 programs, visit www.tsl.texas.gov/america250.

Parking is available at the Capitol Visitors Parking Garage across the street from TSLAC. Additional parking options, including handicapped parking, along with directions and maps, are available on TSLAC’s website at www.tsl.texas.gov/visit.
