[Title translation:] Map of the Bay of the Spiritu Santo in the province of the New Phillipines (Texas) which was commanded to be observed by the Marques of San Miguel de Aguayo on 10 Abril 1722
Shows rivers feeding into the bay, banks, sand bars, a bridge over a river, a mission, presidio, and soundings in the bay. There are drawings of ships in the Gulf of Mexico. The bay refered to is Matagorda Bay. The map is in Spanish.
This is a color photograph (and internegative) in the Archives' Photograph Collection, no. 1983/18-7. A color slide is also available, no. 1983/161-7. The original map is in the Archivo General de Indias, Sevilla, Espana, Mapas y Planos, Mexico, no. 111. Size of the original is 43 cm x 60 cm. A large tracing of this map is map 70c.
