Sir:

I have the honor to report
that since I last wrote, (by the San-Jacinto 28^th
August) that on the following morning (Aug 29^th)
we arrived off the Brassos de Santiago, stood in
within a mile and a half of the village, and the
next day ran down off the Mouth of the Rio Bravo
del Norte, at which place two Mexican Flags were shewn,
stood off, and on, until the afternoon of the 1^st Sept,
when we stood to the N and anchored seventeen
miles north of the Brassos, about a mile and a
half from the shore. Sent the Top-gallant mast^r [master?]
on deck to over-haul the rigging, and sent boats on
shore for fire-wood. On the evening of the 3^rd Sept
got underway, and on the following morning fell
in with the Schooner Commanche of New Orleans,
and from the Brassos de Santiago that morning,
the Captain came on board and politely loaned
me, a printed copy of an Adress [sic] by Gov^r Arista to
his army, a copy of which, with a translation is
herewith enclosed marked A. Got close in, to the
Mouth of the Rio del Norte on the forenoon
of the next day, when from three to five hundred
troops shewed themselves, but they would not fire
at us, altho we were not more than one thousand
yards from the beach. Not finding any orders, as I had
reason to expect from the tenor of my second letter of instruc-
tions from the Hon^ble A.S. Lipscomb, dated 23^rd June; at
sunset (5o) shaped our course for Point Mariandrea, off
which point we arrived on the morning of the 12^th Sept
blowing at the time a Gale from the North[.] [O]n the14th
fell in with the San-Bernard, when I was informed by
