Allan Shivers
Three former governors at the inauguration of a fourth: Price Daniel, Allan Shivers, and Preston Smith at the 1974 inauguration of Dolph Briscoe. In his later years, Shivers managed vast enterprises in the Rio Grande Valley that were the inheritance of his wife, Marialice. He served on the board of directors or chairman of a number of banks, was president of the United States Chamber of Commerce, and chaired the Export-Import Bank. In 1973 he was appointed to the University of Texas Board of Regents, and chaired the board for four years. Shivers died in 1985.
