Mark White and Mrs. White with the Glenns

In the 1984 presidential election, Senator John Glenn of Ohio, former astronaut and first American to orbit the earth, was an early contender for the Democratic nomination, with Governor White also frequently mentioned as a possible vice-presidential nominee. Here John and Annie Glenn, right, pay a visit to Governor White and his wife Linda Gale. In the end, the nomination went to Walter Mondale, who selected Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate.
