have to be removed from the eastern embrasure to

the gun which fired over the south wall; for other

wise, the surroundings of the leap could not be

shown. That look towards the south western corn-

er of the church ought, I think, to be from the point

(V.) south of the pallisade (R ) and from an elevation

nearly equal to that of the church wall. This

would not only give a better sight of the groups

on and near the top of it, but would look over

the palisade & low wall, and even over the low

barrack, into the large area. It could also have

a glance into it through the shattered gate (M).

This would afford some glimpse of the conflict

in the inclose, of which - anon.

            Travis and Crocket both fell in the large area;

but a license like that just cited, might transfer one

as well as the other to the church. I know of no

fitter place for the former, in this final hour,

than on the top of the church wall, pointing

with sword to his flag, while a pistol, just fired,

is dropping from his left hand, as he receives a death

shot in the forehead. He was found with but one

wound, & it was there. Bowie, as you will remember,
