P.S.     It is proper to remark that the assault on the Alamo was

one of the bravest attacks ever made by Mexican Troops; for few as their

opponents were, it required determined valor to overcome them. It would there-

fore be no compliment to the latter; it would be unjust to the former to throw

an air of irresolution around the assailants.
