Taylor's account of the battle

No 8

He had ben shote the day before in the in the brest [breast], the ball

entering at the eight rib & passing through him, coming out by

the back bone. He had lane [lain] in the hot sun all day.

At this moment I discovered a gentleman passing [by on] the road to

camp (leading a horse) by the name of Harlan. I beckond to

him to com to me. He came. We mounted the wounded

Mexican on the led [lead] horse, taking him to camp, plasing [placing]

him with the wounded Mexicans. When ever he saw

me after wourds [afterwards] passing by him, which I had often to do,

he would comencd [commence] smiling and clapping his hand[s] as if

he was glad to see me and apperd gratfull to me for

the saving of his life. He lived and got well or at

least was living the last I saw of him.
