My dear and honorable Sir

            Your esteemed favor of the 12th

ult. was duly received for which I

thank you. I have anxiously awaited a

communication from the Hon Minister

of War to whom you referred my letter

of inquiry in regard to uniforms[,] flags[,]

arms[,] etc.[,] of mexican soldiers—in

1836. The labour of years is awaiting

this detail which if incorrect would

— to many — harm the entire work.

This fact I trust will excuse me if

I ask that you again — see the Hon

Minister — and endeavor to obtain from

him this information so essential to the

completion of my work.

Genl Santa Anna wrote to me in

1874 from the City of Mexico in
