To apply for borrowing privileges, an applicant must present a valid TexShare card from their home library, as well as a non-expired government issued photo ID with the applicant's current address. If the photo ID lacks a current address, a current official document reflecting the applicant's name and address or a recently postmarked document that reflects the applicant's name and address is required. TexShare customers are responsible for all materials they borrow from the Denton Public Library as well as any fines or fees they accrue.

Applications for borrowing privileges can be made during normal business hours at the Service Desk of any Denton Public Library location.

TexShare cardholders may check out three items at a time for a three week checkout period. Remote access to the library's subscription databases is not available to TexShare cardholders. In addition, TexShare card privileges do not include use of the library's downloadable material, streaming services, Interlibrary Loan services, kits, wi-fi hotspots, Genealogy, Municipal Archive, reference, and Texana collections, periodicals and newspapers, or microforms.

All library customers are assessed an additional fee of up to $9.85 if their account has charges and is turned over to the Denton Public Library's collection agency.
