Obtaining a TexShare Card:
TexShare cards are issued by Central staff. The Houston Public Library AskHPL Team issues TexShare cards to registered Houston Public Library customers who satisfy the following eligibility requirements: a. resident of the City of Houston b. registered Houston Public Library borrower for at least six months c. card is current (not expired) d. no fees are owed or accrued e. submit a completed Houston Public Library TexShare Card Agreement form Customers meeting these requirements can complete the online application via the Houston Public Library website or submit a printed application to any HPL location.The following apply to all TexShare cards issued by Houston Public Library: a. TexShare cards expire on July 31 of each year. b. TXSHR-CARD code is entered in the User Category 3 element of the User Record. c. TexShare card is filled out with the customer's name, HPL User ID, TexShare Card expiration date and Houston Public Library as the issuing library. d. TexShare card confers borrowing privileges at participating TexShare Card Program libraries in accordance with the lending policies posted by participating libraries on the TexShare website: www.texshare.edu. e. any fines and fees incurred at TexShare Card Program participating libraries on HPL- issued TexShare cards and reported as unpaid six months after notice will be billed to the HPL User Record and may result in suspension of borrowing privileges.
Using a TexShare Card:
1. Honoring TexShare Cards A Texas resident who presents a TexShare Card issued by another TexShare participating library is to be registered as a Houston Public Library borrower in accordance with HPL Policy 6.2 Registration, Sections A-C. A customer who is not a Texas resident presenting a TexShare Card issued by another TexShare participating library is to be registered as a Houston Public Library Non- resident Waiver borrower according to the normal procedure and: a. Select the TXSH-CARD value for User Category 3 on the User Record Demographics tab b. Enter the TexShare Card issuing library and card number in a dated note field labeled TEXSHARE CARD INFO
Loan Policies:
The standard loan period is three weeks. Items with no holds will be automatically renewed three times for another three weeks. The maximum loan period, including renewal, is twelve weeks. A maximum of 50 overall items including a max of 15 DVDs may be checked out. Items in reference collections are not available for circulation.
