Obtaining a TexShare Card:
The Texshare Library Card voucher is given to El Paso Public Library (EPPL) patrons who wish to visit other Texas libraries and borrow materials. The voucher is good for one year and will be issued upon request to El Paso Public Library patrons in good standing, meaning they do not have overdue or outstanding fines. Since it is a voucher and not a library card, the patron will still have to apply for a library card at the other Texas library location to receive borrowing privileges. The EPPL customer will be responsible for all materials he or she borrows from other Texas libraries as well as for fines or fees assessed. If EPPL is notified that a patron has unpaid fines at the lending library, the customer will be blocked from using the El Paso Public Library until fines and fees are cleared with that organization. To obtain a Texshare Library Card voucher, an EPPL patron may present his or her unexpired library card. Staff will verify that the card or membership is current and the patron does not have fines or fees. Staff will fill out the Texshare voucher card with the following: patron name, patron ID, patron's borrowing status (ie. 'unexpired/good standing), and expiration date for the voucher (one year from date of issuance). Staff and patron will each sign the back of the card.
Using a TexShare Card:
When persons not eligible for an El Paso Public Library card present a Texshare Library Card voucher, staff will issue a limited access library card allowing the customer to check out one item and place one hold request. The Texshare customer is responsible for all materials he or she borrows from the El Paso Public Library as well as for fees or fines accrued. To give borrowing privileges, staff will view the voucher and the patron's unexpired US government issued photo ID and verify that they're not expired. If the documents are current, the patron will be asked to complete a library card application and the patron will be issued a limited use library card.
Loan Policies:
Lending Policies and Limitations: All El Paso Public Library lending policies apply to visiting Texshare card holders. Visiting Texshare card holders are allowed one checkout and one hold request at a time.
