States, the undersigned has no authority from his
government to make such assurances or guaranty;
but he will propose to Mr Jones that the Minister
of Texas shall be fully satisfied on this subject by
the Government of the United States, after he shall
arrive at Washington City, and before entering
upon such negotiation.
The undersigned takes great pleasure,
on this occasion in renewing to Mr Jones the
assurance of his greatest respect and highest
consideration.
