George W. Hockley, Report on the condition of the Texas Navy, January 1842replaced. [T]he hull of the Ship has been
 found rotten in many parts—repairs however
under the direction of the Comm have been made[.]

              The Brig Wharton remains at Galveston
under the Command of Commander Lothrop—
Mounting 14 Medium 18 pdrs, probably in want
of running rigging[.] [W]ith men and ammunition
and provisions, she can be ready for sea in a
short time[.]

              The Brig Archer—pierced for 18-18 pdrs,
has four guns unfit for service and has been
lying exposed since she has been turned over to
the Government—without an Officer or man on
board and subject to the depredations of any
boat or person passing at night[.] She has her
standing rigging—Masts and yards—but her
standing rigging never having been lifted since
she was launched[,] it is reasonable to suppose that
it is rotten[.] I am informed that she has
one foot water in her magazine, and that some
stores, probably powder have been lost[.]

              The Steam Ship Zavala Mounting 4
Medium 12 12 & 1 long 9 pdr—and will require
from 15 to 20,000 Dollars to repair, and an additional
amount (to be regulated by the number of men
furnished) to send her to sea.
