George W. Hockley, Report on the condition of the Texas Navy, January 1842Lieut T.M. Taylor, answers the charge of Commodore
Moore in relation to the Small arms by a certificate
from Lieut Lewis that all the arms were in the
arm[s] chest, except those issued to the officers of the
vessel at the time the Schooner San Bernard left
Tobasco under the Command of Lieut T.M. Taylor
and also that the arms receipted for by him to
Lieut OShannessy were placed there and that none
were removed from the chest until after the sailing
of the San Bernard under the Command of Lieut
OShannessy.” This seems to exonerate Lt Taylor
returns are ordered to be made and I am informed
that but one pistol is missing[.] Commander Lothrop
has been ordered to report the conditions of the Brigs
Wharton  and Archer forthwith[.] I also
enclose for the perusal and examination of your
Excellency a letter from the Auditor explanatory
of the accounts of Commodore E.W. Moore—which
also accompany  this memorandum[.]

Geo W. Hockley
