Collection Development Training Series
The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) recognizes the vital role that school librarians play in supporting students' learning and growth. To support this work, TSLAC has developed a series of short recorded trainings covering some collection development fundamentals and sharing best practices regarding policy pieces required by the mandatory collection development standards that took effect in January 2024. These recorded trainings are meant to be short, on-demand sessions that provide refreshers to school librarians and school library staff. They are not intended to replace formal collection development training.
This training series explores how collection development best practices can significantly improve library services, creating a more engaging and practical library experience for students and others who use school libraries. Topics covered will include parental involvement, needs assessment, selection and acquisition, and deselection. Sessions will be added every two weeks until the series is completed. Please check this page often for updates and new content.
