Miss
Sherman
Dear Miss,
I joined Company A [?] called the
Buck Eye Rangers in the Brassos Bottom in April 1836.
It was then commanded by Capt Wm Wood, Col S.
Sherman having then been promoted.
This Company was raised and armed and
Equiped at New Port KY and the Ladies presented
them with a very Beutiful [sic] Banner made of Silk,
on this was the Portrait of a Female [and] also "Pre-
sented by the Ladies of New Port KY[.]" "Victory or Death"
[was] handsomely and artistically painted on the
Shield [and] also [there] was a Ladies [sic] Kid Glove.
Our artist at Independence Texas[,] Mr
McArdle, wants to paint the Battle Field
of San Jacinto, and as our honored Secty [?] Moses
Austin Bryan, knowing me to have been a member
of that company desires that I should obtain it, if
only from a copy & if you can aid us in this, or in any
way, will please do so.
Yours, Edward Miles.
