Independence, Texas.

Dear Sir:

            I did not fail, immedi-

ately upon receipt of your favor

of 12 ultimo, which reached me

long after its date, to institute

inquiry as to the possibility of se-

curing the models of Mexican Arms,

Uniforms and flags which you

desire. I regret to say that I have

been wholly unable to effect any-

thing at all. Strange though

it may seem, I am assured that

to paint the flag under which

Santa Anna marched into Texas,
