Dear Sir.

            Pardon my tardy

reply to your letter. I have not been

well; Mrs. Menard & I read it together

& she handed it to a gentleman friend

with the hope & expectation that he

would put in the Galveston News

such an article as you proposed. We

are both most willing to assist you in

your great work in any way that is in

our power & regret very sincerely not being

able to contribute otherwise. I really

am quite unable to do more than get

along with a small income, else I

would be delighted to be of great

assistance, & had I been at all able

would have sent something tangable [sic]

long ago, feeling that you must need

such help & fully appreciating your
