Trouble at Sandy Point, page 10

August 14 1877

To Col. Will Lambert A.D.C.

Houston: - Should an emergency

arise requiring help of the organized military com-

panies to quell a riot at Sandy Point, such as civil

authorities cannot quell, you are authorized and

ordered to call in the said companies to put down

such unlawful rioters bearing arms and threat-

ening life and peace. Do not resort to extreme mea-

sures unless absolutely demanded, and to pre-

serve the peace, and let it be done in aid of

civil authorities.

Commander-in-chief and Governor.
