Dear Sir,
Long years ago, you
courteously aided me in the matter of my
painting of "Lee in the Wilderness": and ac-
cording to the "ways of the world" — which takes
advantage of the generous — your gracious
service must be my excuse for trespassing on
the privacy of your honorable retirement.
After fifteen years of study, collect-
ing data, making sketches, studies etc. etc.
and several years of active work on the canvas,
"The battle of San Jacinto" is nearing completion.
And while I am
encouraged to believe it is a success artistic-
ally, I have the written endorsement of the
surviving veterans (last year, headed by their
