Online Classes

Records Management Basics for Local Governments
Remote and via Zoom

This course is an abbreviated mashup of our traditional in-person classes for local governments: Introduction to Records Management and Managing Electronic Records. Two days condensed to two and a half hours! Attendees will learn the basic concepts of records management: legal obligations, definitions, and how to read a retention schedule. Records Management Basics for State Agencies
Remote and via Teams

Learn the basic concepts of records management: legal obligations, definitions, and how to use a retention schedule. We will also cover the disposition process for how to handle records at the end of their life cycle. This course is intended for state agency Records Management Officers and Liaisons, state employees who are new to records management, or anyone seeking a refresher on the topic.

In-person Classes

We provide cost-effective in-person training in Austin for state agencies and local governments. Classes are designed to assist agency heads, elected officials, records management officers and other government staff with establishing and administering efficient records management programs.  Classes are typically held on a quarterly basis. Location of Training

Classes will be held in the downtown Austin area. See the class registration form for specific training location information.

We hold classes at our main location, the Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library building located at 1201 Brazos Street, Austin, TX 78701.

Cancellation Information

If you need to cancel your registration, please email rm_trng@tsl.texas.gov by the cancellation due date provided in your confirmation email.  Otherwise, your government will be billed for the class. You can also send a substitute in your place if you are unable to attend.

Billing Information

Invoices will be sent at the conclusion of the event no later than the 15th of the month following the class. Prepayment is not accepted. Please ensure billing contact information is correct at time of registration to ensure timely processing.

Workshops by Request

TSLAC’s Government Information Analysts are available to travel across the state to provide records management training to state agencies and local governments. By partnering with records managers across Texas, we are able to offer 1/2 day (3 hr course), 1-day, or 2-day  workshops.

Our training calendar can fill up quickly. If you are interested in setting up a workshop, we recommend that you contact us at least 3-6 months in advance.

State Agencies

We are currently offering an Introduction to Records Management course ranging from 1 to 2 hours, depending on content and activities.

This course is best presented in conjunction with an agency's records management officer to provide program specifics. 

This course is considered a 1/2 day workshop.

What does TSLAC provide?

  • Experienced instructors
  • Course materials (slide presentations, class books, exercises, and supplemental materials)
  • Registration and billing services
  • Audiovisual equipment (laptop and projector), if unavailable at the training site

What does TSLAC need from you?

How much would the workshop cost?

FY2025 Rates
(Starting September 1, 2024)

  • 1/2 Day Workshop (approximately 3 hour course): $24 per attendee.
  • 1 Day Workshop: $36 per attendee.
  • 2 Day Workshop: $60 per attendee.
