Due to the COVID-19 health situation, the Talking Book Program, including the recording studio, is closed to the public and our Studio volunteers. We want to support the health and wellness of our communities and for safety of our patrons and staff. Since our closure prevents us from mailing any cartridges or machines, we have made the December 2019 and March 2020 issues of Texas Monthly available for download. The January and February issues will not be recorded. The files are encrypted and compressed.

Instructions for downloading magazine files:

  1. Select the magazine title and issue you would like to download.
  2. Download the issue to your computer.
  3. Unzip (extract) the files.
  4. Copy the files to your flash drive or cartridge.

You will now be able to listen to the magazine in your DTBM. You can also listen to these magazines in an authorized commercial player such as a Victor Reader Stream or other commercial player that has been authorized to play NLS books.

You will not be able to download these files using either BARD Express or the BARD Mobile app, as these magazines are not available on BARD.

However, once you have downloaded the issues you would like to listen to, if you prefer, you can “sideload” them into the BARD Mobile app so that you can listen to them and delete them through the app. Instructions for sideloading files are available here: https://nlsbard.loc.gov/apidocs/BARDMobile.userguide.iOS.1.0.html#SideLoadTitles8.6
